Discover the West Coast of Britain - North Vs South

The long coastline is divided into the North west coast and the south west coast. Both the northern and southern coasts have a neck to neck competition about being the Britain's top holiday and tourist destination. With the Cumbria at one side and Cornwall at other, it's hard to say where one would love to stay-the most.

Both the North West coast and the south west coast share one thing in common and that obviously is the great blue Atlantic Ocean. Blackpool in the North West and Newquay in the south west are two most important costal towns and tourist destinations of Britain. Despite sharing the same coastline, there are a lot of differences that make both of the towns unique in their own aspects. Let's have a look at what each has to offer.

Surf your way through NEWQUAY

Newquay is the surfer's paradise rightfully called the surfing capital of Britain. Why not call it the surfing capital of the world as it attracts a huge number of surf enthusiasts every year. The town itself has eleven beaches in all suitable for surfers of different skill level from beginners to experts. Among these beaches, Fristal beach is one of the best surf points in the world. With its perfect sized swells and north facing winds, Fristal beach is the home of many renowned Surfing competitions in the world. But it's obviously not only the water that makes Newquay a place worth paying a visit. When the sun is shinning bright in the month of May even those who surf the lands make their way to join the cruise in the "Run to the Sun festival "organized by the Volksworld magazine. The annual festival is regularly held since 1987. The show is one of the Europe's biggest car show featuring VW vans, beetles and many other custom car shows.

Since there is so much to see and enjoy in this southern west coast town, the population increases tremendously during the high seasons. In 2007, The Park alone managed to bring almost 5.5 million visitors to the town. How does the west coast differ from the east coast?

I live in Virginia and maybe going to a college on the west coast. How is the social life different? I heard that they were similar to that of New York, but I really hope not. What would I have to get used to if I moved over there?

The West coast is much like other areas in the West. There is little similarity to New York. The West coast is actually much more similar to northern Virginia than it is to New York city. People are nice and hospitable, much friendlier than people anywhere on the east coast, and much less rude. The weather is much milder up and down the West coast than it is in Virginia and other areas on the east coast. The summers have very low humidity, and the areas near the ocean have extremely mild summers--usually in the 60s and 70s, and unless you go very far away from the coast, the winters are much warmer than on the east coast, so snow is very rare.
