The Dell Vostro 1015 is essentially a very affordable bare-bones (2.4 kg) derived as a sub-notebook that does a respectable job at all the usual tasks to keep users connected and prriotize productivity. Dell has made virtues out of the lack of features built into the 'Vostro' by offering numer of ways to customize it to suit customer needs (note that the Vostro lacks either Bluetooth or Wireless N, though).

Connectivity

This laptop offers a variety of ports and slots for connections. A network connector (RJ45) RJ11 and1394 slots, a 5-in-1 card reader, four USB 2.0 ports and a VGA plug-in comes standard; however, there is no HDMI connector. Headphone, microphone, and audio jacks allow connection to a webcam or added speakers as this model carries only one speaker.

Wide Display HD with Anti-glare

Measuring 15.6 inches, the Vostro 1015 screen features Wide Display HD with Anti-glare. At 1366 x 768 pixels, this corresponds with the 'film-friendly' aspect ratio of 16:9 although this is on the low end for notebook graphics capabilities. Many people like the medium sized display as it is easy on the eyes, does not require much energy, and the Laptops can be kept compact. Compared to its smaller sibling, the 1014, this laptop delivers better graphics using an integrated 512 (MB) Intel® 4500MHD Graphics Media Accelerator.

Power & Processor

Power comes from a long-lasting 6-cell Lithium Ion battery or a 65 Watt AC Adapter although those consumers who require additional battery time would be advised to upgrade to the 3000 series which offer more options including a 9-cell battery and travel adapters.

An Intel Celeron processor powers this machine, comparable in performance to a Pentium M with halved level 2 Cache although it may consume more pwoer. It is also available with a Low power consumption version with very subsequent current consumption - a boon for travel to remote locations.

Keyboard Layout

Users report that the keyboard and relatively small touchpad (mouse) are fairly comfortable. Note that in spite of the broad housing (Width: 14.8" / 376mm. Height: 1.0-1.5" / 26.5-36.8mm. Depth: 9.8" / 247.9), the keyboard lacks a separate numeric keypad and relies on a 18 x 18 mm grid (a standard PC keyboard layout is 19 x 19mm).

Hard Drive & OS

At the heart of this Laptops is a 160GB9 SATA hard drive (5400RPM) and the latest-generation Intel® 45 Express chipset which promises greater productivity than earlier versions. New users or those familiar with Windows may be a little startled at first by the operating system which employs Red Hat® Ubuntu® 8_10 rather than the Windows 7 OS bundled with the more pricey 3000 series of the Vostro.

virtue board problems on a ion?

my on/ offon a ion power switch dosent work on a brand new board do u no wats the problem?

I had this same problem. The on/off switch on the ion virtue borad is shorter than the stock borad. So when you reassemble the marker it wont come on. So what I did was....

Remove the on off button off the trigger frame, gently lift the corner of the plastic near the button, it is plastic with sticky glue under it, LIFT the corner of the plastic NOT the BUTTON. Use something thin like a needle or a exsacto screw driver.

Once removed

I took a business card and cut two little tiny squares and super glued them to the back of the plastic ion button and bam it fixed it.

Or you can spend $20 dollars on a virtue button.
