It's really a surprise that Charl Schwartzel defeat Woods
It's a
breakthrough for Charl Schwartzel on last month's US Masters. In this game he
became a winner when Woods was there.
Charl Schwartzel
was almost overlooked. But he made him distinct by his performance. In the game
he eclipsed Tiger Woods with his breakthrough. Woods, who had won four time
opening majors , claimed his first Masters victory in his third appearance at
Augusta, while South African Schwartzel did so when he made his second attempt.
Only two other
players have landed the cherished green jacket in their second starts - Jimmy
Demaret in 1940 and fellow American Herman Keiser in 1946.
In 1997, Woods
became the youngest Masters champion at the age of 21 who achieved a 12-shot
victory and broke the belief that the recipe for success at Augusta took years
to learn.
Woods is a
living legend in this field. He is quite special, though, and he has since won
a further 13 major titles which led people to regard him as the best player of
his generation and, arguably, ever.
Today, the old
wisdom about earning your Masters spurs still serve the palyers - despite
Schwartzel's spectacular display in the final round two weeks ago, when he
ended a sweltering afternoon of breathtaking shot-making with four successive
birdies.
When asked
before this year's Masters if he would be surprised to see a relative Masters
novice get the green jacket, British world No 1 Lee Westwood, who was ranked
second at the time, told the reporters of Reuter: "Yeah, a little bit I
suppose.
"You look
at repeat winners here. It seems to be the rule that you have to have played a
few (Masters) to get the hang of it. There is quite a lot of local knowledge
that everyone should learn a little.
"many
factors will affect on the players. For example a yard past the flag on certain
holes can make some differences, or short of the flag can be the difference
between having a chip for birdie and struggling to get down in two.
"So when
you talk about two or three yards either way, obviously local knowledge counts
for a lot."
Nevertheless , I
am not interested in the details. Personally, I have strong support for Tiger
woods. He is the best golfer, ever and forever. I am really saddened by the
scene. But maybe nobody can be the winner all the time.
May I can
comfort myself by what I am running after to play golf. I think golf is a very
graceful sport just as its nick name the ancient and old suggested. So I don't
care very much about the competition. Anyhow, playing golf is not a very easy
way to earn money. We will enjoy it to the fullest if we play it just for fun.
